PERU MISSIONS 2004
June 21st – July 31st

Seung-hee Kim, Tim Pai, Eugene Park, Andrea Hsue

Our 6th Peru Team will be serving the Lord through community service, open-air evangelism, church presentations, and Vacation Bible School. They’ll be teaming up with members from other AMI churches.

History of Peru:
Since gaining independence from Spain in 1824, Peru has had a long history of dictatorship and military rule. A brutal war against Maoist rebels claimed as many as 69,000 lives in the 80’s and 90’s. Despite the near destruction of the guerrilla groups, murders, armed robberies and gang warfare, is still a problem. Peru's development has also been hindered by widespread corruption and the failure of successive governments to address social and economic inequality. An elite group of Spanish descent controls most of its wealth and political power, while the indigenous peoples are largely excluded and make up the majority of those living below the poverty line.

Prayer Requests for Peru:

  • Government: Peru turned democratic less than a decade ago; please pray that God would grant wisdom to the current leaders to bring an end to corruption and instability.

  • Evangelical Churches: The church in Peru has been growing rapidly, pray that God would raise trained and matured leaders who can be guided by clear biblical teaching.

  • Indigenous Peoples: The Quechua and Aymara peoples of the mountains and the Amerindian tribes of the lowland areas have a strong tradition of superstition and virtually no churches. Please pray for breakthrough and revival in these areas that people would instead hunger for a relationship with Christ.

Pray for Team:

  • Unity: Healthy accountability, fellowship, relationship-building, and servants' hearts

  • Growth: Growing love for God, hearts for the people of Peru and the nations, richer study of Scripture, deeper prayer lives, physical health, and emotional stability

  • Training: Preparation for spiritual battles; that God would be the center of all that we do as we train spiritually, mentally and physically in the coming months
