Think of some ways of how you “reject” God.

1a. What did Israel really want a king? (8:20)

1b. Why was their desire sinful? (8:7 – 8, 10: 19, 12:12, Deut. 7: 6 – 11)

1c. What can we learn from the “warnings” concerning decisions we make apart from God’s will?

2a. What are some faults that you see in Saul’s spiritual life? (8:3, 5-6, 18, 10:22)

2b. Despite our faults, what do you think makes a good leader in God’s eyes?

3. Read I Samuel 12:22. Even though the Israelites sinned by rejecting God, how is God’s covenant love demonstrated?
