John 1
6
And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his
commands. As you have heard from the beginning,
his command is that you walk in love.
Love
is shown in action. John speaks about this many
times. Warm and fuzzy feelings are not enough to
say that we are practicing love. These feelings
need to be revealed in action for it to be true
love.
We
can say that we trust Jesus. We can say that we
love God. We can say that we are Christian. The
question is, “are you obeying God’s
commands?” Walking in love is walking in obedience
to God’s word.
I
love telling my kids how much I love them, but if
I don’t do anything with them my words are
cheap. Monday was Isaiah’s birthday and we
took the kids out for a family party at Chucky Cheese.
We
ate pizza and played some games there. Afterwards,
we came home and sang “happy birthday”
and ate some cake. Isaiah loved it. The kids loved
it. I think Isaiah experienced love that day, not
just with my words but with action. Love must be
expressed and experienced.
