05/28/05 - Jude
1
24
To him who is able to keep you from falling and
to present you before his glorious presence without
fault and with great joy— 25
to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power
and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before
all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.
Jude
ends his letter with this prayer. I really love
this doxology. But, it is especially more meaningful
as you read the content of Jude. There were false
teachers in the church. They had slipped in and
were causing great confusion. Jude had to warn people
about the judgment of God for following wrong teachings
and living an ungodly life.
Things
were a mess at the church. He is writing to give
direction to a complicated situation. Then he ends
with this doxology. Notice how he does not pray
that God will solve the problem. He is not problem
focused, but he is God-centered. He is practical,
but in the end, he takes us back to God-centered
theology.
This
is real counseling. This is real ministry. Practical
advice is good, but there is not enough. The power
comes from knowing who gave that advice. The Bible
is not just a book of knowledge; it is the very
Word of God. God is our counselor. Who is this God
we live for? Who is this God who counsels us?
He
is the one who is able to keep you from falling.
He is the one who can keep us without fault and
with great joy. He is our Savior. He is majesty,
power and authority now and forever. Amen.
Praise
God for who he is and what he has done!
