09/05/05 - Psalm
1 - 2
10
Therefore, you kings, be wise;
be warned, you rulers of the earth.
11 Serve the LORD with fear
and rejoice with trembling.
12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry
and you be destroyed in your way,
for his wrath can flare up in a moment.
Blessed are all who take refuge in him.
Psalms
1-2 introduces the rest of the book of Psalm. Psalm
1 stated that you have two roads of life. You could
either live a blessed life or a cursed life. It
declare that we must delight and meditate on the
Word of the Lord. God’s word will put us on
the road of blessing.
Psalm
2 is simply stating that God is the true ruler.
There might be chaos created by earthly rulers but
in the end the justice and plan of God will prevail.
God will show himself to be the king of kings. Basically,
he is saying God is in total control and that anyone
that tries to stand against God is a fool.
I
want to examine this phrase, “Serve the Lord
with fear and rejoice with trembling.” It
is interesting to me that Scripture calls us to
serve God with fear. I think sometimes we serve
God too casually. We serve God as if we are doing
Him a favor. We serve God and wait for him to pay
us back. Don’t forget we serve a holy God.
Remember it is really our privilege to serve. We
were created to serve him in reverence. So whatever
we do from giving rides to preaching we should have
a reverent fear of God.
The
Psalmist also tells us to “rejoice with trembling.”
Rejoice with trembling? We should meditate on this
for a while. Take time to think about it. What is
he talking about? Can we do such a thing?
Yes,
even in our time of celebration and worship to God
there must be reverence. We can clap, dance, and
be free but we worship the Almighty God. He is personal.
He is our Father. He even calls us his friend but
He is also the holy and all-powerful God. Worship
the Lord with great joy and with great fear. Let
us keep meditating on God’s word so it becomes
the food for our soul. Amen!
Praise
report: Praise the Lord! The Temple site started
off well. We had about 20-25 people. There was definitely
some nervousness and awkwardness but God was faithful.
Personally, I felt His presence and His favor. I
guess you have to ask others if they had the same
experience. I know God was with us. Pray that many
who came will come back. Pray that they will have
a great heart for Temple campus. Pray that they
will want be part of what God is going to do through
GCC. Pray for me I really need it.
