Sunday
09/11/05 - Psalm
8
I
am usually writing my reflection on a Psalm the
day before you read it. Basically, I write it Saturday
and you read it Sunday. I had a chance to go the
married couple retreat. It was a great blessing.
I really believe God is going to do some great things
through this ministry. If you are not involved I
want to challenge you to get involved. It will be
good for your spiritual life and your marriage.
Contact Pastor Kurt and don’t miss our next
event and the family group. We will be having two
groups this fall.
This
Psalm is special to me because I heard it as a song
on one of my first Christian album. I played it
over and over again. As a young Christian, I really
loved Christian music. It helped me tremendously
in my spiritual growth. Some of the music sounded
a little “cheesy” but the words were
powerful and uplifting.
This
Psalm does a great job of painting our God as the
majestic and all glorious God who desires intimacy
with us. This is captured in v. 4, “What is
man that you are mindful of him, the son of man
that you care for him?”
It
is true why does God spend time wanting to invest
into us. Why does He love us so? It is an incredible
mystery. God of the universe is mindful of you and
I. He wants the best for us. He sent His Son, Jesus
to die for us. Why? This Psalm reflects on this
great mystery and praise God for it.
Many
times we spend time wondering why God has not given
us this or that. But we should spend more time reflecting
on God’s amazing love and care for us. He
has given us too much! He has given us Jesus. Notice
that David begins and ends with “O Lord, our
Lord how majestic is your name in all the earth!”
As we understand the great heart of our God we should
lift of the same praise that is stated in this Psalm.
For
the director of music. According to gittith.
A
psalm of David.
1
O LORD, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory
above the heavens.
2
From the lips of children and infants
you have ordained praise
because of your enemies,
to silence the foe and the avenger.
3
When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
4
what is man that you are mindful of him,
the son of man that you care for him?
5
You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings
and crowned him with glory and honor.
6
You made him ruler over the works of your hands;
you put everything under his feet:
7
all flocks and herds,
and the beasts of the field,
8
the birds of the air,
and the fish of the sea,
all that swim the paths of the seas.
9
O LORD, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
