DAILY DEVOTIONS

Sunday 09/18/05 - Psalm 15

A psalm of David.

1 LORD, who may dwell in your sanctuary?
Who may live on your holy hill?
2 He whose walk is blameless
and who does what is righteous,
who speaks the truth from his heart

3 and has no slander on his tongue,
who does his neighbor no wrong
and casts no slur on his fellowman,

4 who despises a vile man
but honors those who fear the LORD,
who keeps his oath
even when it hurts,

5 who lends his money without usury
and does not accept a bribe against the innocent.
He who does these things
will never be shaken.

The Bible calls us to holy living. Though we walk by grace, we are called to live holy lives. It is a high standard. It is a Biblical standard.

Have you noticed something? When we live according to the Bible we feel closer to God. When we strive to live like this Psalm, we become more intimate with God. We find strength. The Psalmist declares, “He who does these things will not be shaken.” Let’s live like this! Not just talk about it but live it.

  • walk with integrity (blameless)
  • speak truth from your heart
  • no slander on your tongue
  • does your neighbor no wrong
  • on slur on his fellowman
  • keep our oath even when it hurts
  • lends money without usury
  • accepts no bribe

These verses are describing Jesus. He is the one who will never be shaken. 1John 2:3-6 declares, “We know that we have come to know him if we obey his commands. The man who says, "I know him," but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But if anyone obeys his word, God's love[b] is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did.

Just some personal thoughts:

I was thinking life really does get complicated at times. People who were once friends seem to struggle with their friendship. People who worked so well together find themselves unable to work together. There is misunderstanding that can hurt a relationship. Sin and ignorance can ruin the best of friends. It can really get frustrating and confusing in life. There are many situations that I have no easy answer for. Life can get tough.

So what should we do? Give up. Go crazy. Get depressed. No we have to call upon the Lord. We have to stand strong in His mighty power. We have to put on the full armor of God. Pick up the sword and fight the fight for Christ. Of course you know I mean the word of God when I say the sword. Don’t want you to think that I am a violent man or something. Press on friends and thank God that He is in control. We have to pray.
