PRAYER FOCUS

Pakistan - November 10, 2007

  • This past week, Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf placed the country under emergency rule. The president announced the ruling as a means to fight what he says is a rising threat of extremism. Also, the president suspended the constitution of Pakistan with this decision. This move has met much opposition from not only many within the country, but also from the United States, who see this as a direct conflict to democracy. Many people view this as a power move by the president with the purpose of keeping his position as general while remaining as president. Much protesting and rallying has been present, including a large rally and march this weekend. Fears of suicide bombers targeting this rally have risen. With all the turmoil caused by this event, there are opportunities for Al-Qaeda to bring more numbers into the country.

  • Please pray for:
    • Peace in the country, that more strife would not arise due to rising tension in the country,
    • That God would work in the minds of Pakistan’s leaders to bring an effective end to this situation,
    • That through all the conflict, God’s presence could be felt and that people would see a solution in Him and ask for His wisdom through it all.
